Industrial control systems and security: taking on the transformation challenge
Security of industrial control systems (ICS) has today become a key issue for all companies concerned. These systems allow carrying out direct actions in the physical world by issuing commands in the logical world and are used to control the industrial processes of numerous companies.
In addition to the environmental and human risks involved, these systems also represent a strategic challenge at the state level. The recent surge in incidents has made it necessary to take steps to secure these systems and undertake transformation. The question however is, knowing where to start when the issue of security has been ignored for many years.
Industrial Control Systems make it possible to control industrial processes (assembly lines, machine tools, medical scanners, air-conditioners, signal boxes, pipelines, etc.). These systems are becoming increasingly more opened and, as such, serve as a real gateway between companies’ production processes and their Management Information Systems (MIS).
